The community’s response has exceeded all expectations. Since opening, Rustic Root has been sold out every night, with locals already becoming regulars who return multiple times per week. When the restaurant opens at 5 p.m., there’s a “mad rush” with the space typically filled by 5:30 p.m. The enthusiasm has been palpable, with neighbors walking and biking to the restaurant, claiming their favorite spots, and eagerly anticipating the opening throughout the construction phase.

True to RMD Group’s vision, Rustic Root Solana Beach offers three unique dining experiences within one dynamic space. Guests can enjoy the interior bar and lounge complete with TVs and live music, the main dining area with its distinct ambiance, or the outdoor walk-up bar perfect for sunshine-filled brunches or evening cocktails. Partnering with design firm Davis Ink, who has collaborated with RMD for over 20 years, the space showcases modern and whimsical interiors. Distinctive features include custom tilework with floral designs at the indoor/outdoor bar, signature green accent shelving, and striking chandeliers crafted from reclaimed wood salvaged from the Hotel Del Coronado’s recent renovation. The dining spaces feature striped flooring, plaid wallpaper, comfortable booths, and charming touches like green dishes and vintage baking tins adorning the ceiling, with hand-painted plates displayed as art.
A Menu Designed for the Neighborhood
The menu mirrors the beloved downtown Gaslamp location while incorporating thoughtful additions for the Solana Beach community. Signature dishes include mini Maryland-style crab cakes, cast iron skillet cornbread, and the wildly popular chicken pot pie. Entrées range from “RFC” Rustic fried chicken with homestyle butter biscuits to steak, pork chops, and fresh seafood and pasta options.
